Climate indicators and monitoring

Climate indicators include extremes of temperatures, precipitation, sea level and storm surge, as well as winds and other severe weather metrics such as lightning, hail, freezing precipitation, and coastal storms. We have received feedback from our stakeholders (for example in Boston) on the different ways that different stakeholders would like this information presented (e.g., mean value vs. central range). We have also developed a template and core content for an indicator and monitoring network focused on the impacts of climate change. Examples of indicators currently tracked by New York City stakeholders can be found in the Mayor’s Management Report (MMR), Citywide Agency Performance Reports (CPRs), and PlaNYC/sustainability reports. Raw data is available at NYCStat, managed by the Mayor’s Office of Operations.
